Fashion is a very complex topic.

One month later, the knee-high boot has officially came back in style. But, then a week later, you find out that those are out and the platform sneaker is back in.

As the summer of 2024 appears, I’ve compiled a list of specific trends, whether it’s a certain shoe, a well-rounded aesthetic, or a new and upcoming brand, that I believe will have a big break in the fashion industry this summer.

 

While many see style as bringing vibrancy towards their outfit, this summer I believe people are going to appreciate the simplicity of the plain white tank top. Whether it’s the spaghetti-strapped tank top or the stringed strap tank, a white tank top is a universal staple piece. You can pair the tank top with any bottom or accessorize with a multitude of jewelry pieces. For instance, the white tank is seen paired with a comfy pair of joggers on your average stay-at-home day. However, it can also be seen being paired with a pair of Levi’s jorts with a tight, slick bun for more of a coffee-run-inspired outfit. The white tank top is a timeless piece.

Right now, society has popularized the mini skirt on a tremendous scale. But, throughout the fall of 2023 the longer denim skirt made an appearance. I predict that the trendy, street-styled lengthy denim skirt will become a popular summer staple. Although many people correlate the summer with shorter, thinner pieces of clothing, the longer denim skirt is mainly paired with a tighter top to oppose the qualities of the skirt. A tube top with a long denim skirt paired with Adidas sambas and a ruffled sock? Now that sounds like a late-night dinner outfit for this summer!

A recurring complaint by people is that they don’t know what pieces of clothing to pair together. Why worry about pairing when you can buy sets? Sets typically are two pieces of clothing, simply a top and a bottom. This summer, I think the tube top and long skirt set will fly up the scale in popularity ranks. Especially in the darker but more vibrant shades of red, blue, green, purple, and yellow. With a set, you don’t have to worry about picking out a full outfit; you already have it there in one!

After much evaluation, specifically Instagram and Pinterest trending posts, those are my top three predictions for the trends of this summer's fashion! But what’s a trend without an individual's opinion? Everyone should have free creative reign over their fashion choices. Just because something is trendy on social media doesn’t mean it’s something you have to like!
