The outlook for the freshman boys swim team this season is promising, with a talented group of young athletes eager to make their mark. Many of the swimmers bring diverse experience levels, and their enthusiasm for learning new techniques is evident. Matthew Ruggiero ’16 was a two-sport athlete when he attended Xaverian, swimming on the varsity team for all four years, becoming captain his senior year, and playing volleyball his sophomore and junior year. Ruggiero was also involved in various school activities such as the school band. He went on to attend the University of New Haven where he was a huge part in helping to create and develop the University of New Haven's first club swim team as well as being the coach of the team for two years. Ruggiero now works as a project manager in Brooklyn while also pursuing a career in Environmental Art Design. This will be his second year as head coach for the Xaverian Swim Team.
