Xaverian, a 6-12 private Catholic school within the network of the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools (XBSS), located in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, is seeking qualified, passionate, and creative teachers who are excited to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and staff in carrying out the Catholic mission of the school in a 21st Century teaching and learning environment. General Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Exhibit competency and a solid knowledge base in the subject area.
  • Deliver dynamic, engaging, and challenging curriculum to middle and high school students.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the students’ diverse learning needs.
  • Design lessons and assessments that align with student learning profiles. 
  • Leverage the use of instructional technologies in a 1:1 tablet computing environment.
  • Perform assigned supervisory/prefecting duties. 
  • Possess strong writing and communication skills.
  • State certification, certification in General Special Education, and/or Students with Disabilities is a plus.

    • Have earned at least an undergraduate degree in chemistry or an acceptable equivalent
    • Be familiar with the New York State Chemistry Regents curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards, and be comfortable teaching Regents-level chemistry

    Specific to the academic subject, the candidate must:
    • Have earned at least an undergraduate degree in health and physical education or an acceptable equivalent
    • Be comfortable teaching middle and high school physical education classes and high school health classes, possibly including a course in nutrition and kinesiology

    Specific to the academic subject, the candidate must:
    • Have earned at least an undergraduate degree in biology or an acceptable equivalent
    • Be familiar with the New York State Life Science/Biology Regents curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards, and be comfortable teaching Regents-level Life Science, with the possibility of teaching anatomy and physiology, AP Biology, and biomedical science courses.

    Specific to the academic subject, the candidate must:
    • Have earned at least an undergraduate degree in physics or an acceptable equivalent
    • Be familiar with the New York State Physics Regents Curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards, and be comfortable teaching courses in physics, including the lab component, with the possibility of teaching Advanced Placement Physics I and II

  • School Counselor

    School Counselor
    A school counselor collaborates with the administration, faculty, and parents to provide our students with a cohesive support system. The counselor is responsible for an assigned caseload of students with a focus on academic progress, social-emotional development, behavioral growth, and future/career planning. A counselor works with students through private meetings and in group sessions/mentor groups. 
     
    Responsibilities include:
     
    • Advising and providing information to parents/guardians and teachers
    • Writing recommendations on behalf of students
    • Reviewing the records of students to check their progress in meeting graduation requirements.
    • Acting as the contact person for parents/guardians
    • Approving a student’s schedule in appropriate classes in coordination with parents, teachers, and administration.
    • Keeping up-to-date with current practices in the field of guidance and counseling through attendance at professional conferences/workshops.  
    • Performing other duties prescribed by the administration (test proctoring, substitutions, etc.)
    • Responding effectively to crises affecting students and faculty
    • Providing mental health and behavioral counseling to students
     
  • Substitute Teachers

    Xaverian is seeking per diem substitute teachers to assist in the supervision of classes during the course of the school day from 8:15 am to 2:30 pm on select dates of the school year. 

    • A Bachelor's degree is required.
    • Prior teaching experience or work as a paraprofessional/teacher assistant is preferred.
    • Pay rate is per diem.
