Police Officer Christopher Hoban '80 Memorial Run
The Hoban Run, a September tradition in Bay Ridge, keeps alive the memory of P.O. Christopher Hoban '80, who gave his life in the line of duty in 1988 at the age of 26. The Police Alumni of Xaverian established a memorial scholarship fund to honor their fellow officer.

The Hoban Run is enthusiastically supported by the Xaverian Police Alumni, the NYPD, and the entire community. The Run not only keeps alive the memory of Chris' personal sacrifice, but it also serves as the primary funding of the Hoban Scholarship, which provides tuition assistance to sons and daughters of New York City Police Officers attending Xaverian.

The 2026 P.O. Christopher Hoban '80 Service to New York Award Recipient

Assistant Chief Michael Collins is a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He joined the New York City Police Department over 40 years ago and quickly rose up the ranks into leadership positions throughout NYC. In his 30-year career, his assignments included service in various communities in Brooklyn & Manhattan, and for over 9 years he served as the commanding officer of the NYPD Press Office. Mike grew up with Chris, and both were attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the time of Chris’ death. Mike has been active in OLPH Parish and in the Brooklyn Community for many years. Mike is married to retired Detective Maureen Collins and has 2 sons: Michael, who lives and works in London with his fiancée Daniella. His son James lives in Manhattan with his wife, Katrina, and their daughter, Maeve.

Sign Up For the Run!

The 5 Mile Run starts and finishes at Xaverian located at 7100 Shore Road, in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. The route runs along the promenade to the Verrazano Bridge and returns along Third Avenue to Xaverian.

The 5K route starts at Xaverian and goes down and back along the harbor promenade and returns to Xaverian.

•Opening Ceremony begins at 10:00am
•5 Mile Run & 5K Run starts at 10:30am (rain or shine).
•Tina Hoban 5K Run/Walk participants follow runners.
•The Kids Dash will take place at the end of the Run
