Anthony Giliberto, a proud member of the Class of 1979, is a renowned tailor and the driving force behind Giliberto Designs Inc., a prestigious custom menswear company based in New York City. As the owner of this family-operated business, he upholds a legacy of craftsmanship that began with his father, Rosario, who immigrated from Sicily in 1955 and established himself as a skilled tailor in Brooklyn. Anthony’s journey into tailoring began early, shaped by his education at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, where he developed discipline and a strong work ethic. He joined his father’s trade at the age of 17, honing his skills in Manhattan’s Garment Center and eventually taking the reins to build a reputation that spans both the business and entertainment worlds. His brother, Russ Giliberto, a Xaverian High School graduate (Class of 1981), is also deeply involved in the business, contributing his expertise to uphold the family’s tradition of excellence.
With a career rooted in old-world tailoring techniques, Anthony has been crafting bespoke suits, dress shirts, tuxedos, and overcoats since 1979. His attention to detail and commitment to quality have made Giliberto Designs a go-to for an elite clientele, including CEOs, athletes, and Hollywood stars. What sets him apart is his personal touch—he often travels to clients’ homes or offices for measurements and fittings, ensuring a seamless and tailored experience. Offering a selection of over 10,000 imported fabrics, he creates garments that blend comfort with standout style.
Anthony’s big break into the entertainment industry came through a twist of fate in 2002, when a Broadway show produced by Barry Manilow fell through, leaving him with a loss but opening doors to costume design. Since then, he has become a fixture in theater, film, and television, collaborating with acclaimed costume designers like Ann Roth and Sandy Powell. His work has dressed icons such as Robert DeNiro, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Gandolfini, and Nathan Lane, appearing in productions like The Sopranos, The Wolf of Wall Street, Succession, and The Irishman, as well as Broadway hits like The Book of Mormon and West Side Story. Over the past two decades, he has contributed to more than 150 shows, earning a reputation as Hollywood’s go-to tailor.
A graduate of St. Francis College with a Bachelor of Science in Business (1979–1983), Anthony combines his entrepreneurial spirit with a deep passion for his craft, a foundation built during his formative years at Xaverian. Together with Russ, also a proud Xaverian alumnus, they ensure Giliberto Designs remains one of the last three men’s suit manufacturers in NYC—a testament to their dedication to preserving traditional tailoring in a modern world. Whether outfitting Wall Street executives or red-carpet regulars, Anthony and Russ Giliberto continue to redefine custom menswear with a blend of heritage, precision, and a little bit of showbiz flair.
