Legally blind due to Leber Congenital Amaurosis, Gian Pedulla '96 has persevered to overcome obstacles and achieve both personal and professional goals.
Gian Carlo Pedulla '96 was born and raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.  Legally blind due to Leber Congenital Amaurosis, he has persevered to overcome obstacles and achieve both personal and professional goals.  Growing up in an Italian American home, he learned the importance of a good meal, meticulous attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the value of independence despite his blindness.

Mr. Pedulla has 15 years of experience in the classroom in a variety of settings across the continuum of services for students who are blind or have low vision – from specialized schools for the blind to public schools.  His time in the classroom informs the decisions he makes in his current role as an administrator for Educational Vision Services within New York City Public Schools.  He currently supervises teachers of the blind and visually impaired in multiple boroughs, while collaborating with educators, families, and policymakers to ensure that students with disabilities receive the resources and support they need to thrive academically and socially.  His leadership focuses on fostering inclusive learning environments, developing innovative strategies for accessible education, and mentoring the next generation of teachers and advocates in the field of blindness.

Mr. Pedulla is far more than an educator.  Outside of the classroom, Mr. Pedulla has enjoyed a 30-year career as a professional DJ.  He has performed at numerous private and corporate events across the tri-state area.  His adaptability and strong interpersonal skills have allowed him to navigate a multitude of different environments while engaging with a wide range of individuals/personalities disabled and non-disabled alike.
Assistive technology has played a crucial role in his life – both professionally and personally.  Through the use of assistive technology, Gian is able to complete many of the same tasks of his sighted peers.  Assistive technology has allowed him equitable access to visual information, which contributed to his success in both academia and the workplace.  With experience teaching at all academic levels including the college level, serving on advisory committees, and consulting for assistive technology companies, Mr. Pedulla brings valuable insight into advocacy and accessibility for individuals with disabilities… and if you’re lucky, he can also bring a good beat to your party as well.
