2021 Season Recap
The Junior Varsity Team campaign of 2021 was nothing short of PERFECTION, literally. The JV Clippers finished the 2021 Season 13-0. They dominated their league the entire season, from start to finish. In doing so, they were crowned the Regular Season Brooklyn-Queens Tier 1 Champions, the CHSAA Tier 1 Champions, and finished the season winning the CHSAA City Championships with a convincing victory over Maria Regina High School on their home court. This is the third year in a row that the program has won the City Championship, but the dominance that was displayed this year was awe-striking.
Behind the incredibly skilled play and uniquely youthful leadership of freshmen Julia Turchiano, Alex Carbinaro, Sophia Manfredi,Cassie McDade, Holly Murray, and Liza Donnelly, the team began to roll. Tremendous on the court contributions were made by fellow freshmen Layla Duggan, Brooke Treacy, Hailey O’Keeffe, and Ryan Schaffer. The energy that Brigit Anderson brought to the gym every day was contagious. Madison Catalano and Jenna Ward made the most of the opportunities they were given. Our sophomores brought a presence of determined character to the gym every day. Maggie Kelly, Sophia Fusco, Lauren Valdermira, and Julia Sala played key roles in all of our victories, especially in Championship matches. Great contributions were made by Devon Conrath, Chrissy Doussous, and Sophia Esposito as well.
What should not go unnoticed is that every athlete was competing at the high school level for the first time. Although it was a team filled with freshmen and sophomores because of the pandemic, our sophomores were participating at the high school level for the first time. The pandemic made them all #humbleandhungry. It seemed the great flood that was Ida didn’t shake this group at all. The “Little Roadies” adapted with contagious energy at every turn. Their spirit and desire to compete combined with a remarkable level of natural talent, and as they say, the rest was history! Undefeated City Champs will always be the title that binds them together, but the nature of the friendships built through sport will be what keeps them together and allows our program to continue to grow and solidify itself as one of the top programs in the city.
