Coaches

Frank Del George, the Head Varsity Baseball Coach, is a skilled teacher of his game whose resume is as extensive as it is impressive.  

A member of Xaverian’s faculty for 33 years, Coach Del George served as the Chairman of the Physical Education Department prior to his retirement from teaching in 2021.  Additionally, during his twelve-year tenure as a baseball coach, he has led his Clippers to six Brooklyn-Queens League Championships, most recently in 2021, three CHSAA championships – 2011 (as assistant coach), 2014 and 2018 (as head coach),  and has been named CHSAA Coach of the Year two times.

Following an illustrious playing career as an infielder at St. Francis College, where he was a two-time Metro Conference All Star, Coach Del George began his 25-year tenure as the youngest Division I Head Baseball Coach at SFC leading the Terriers to two Northeast Conference Championships. He was twice named NEC Coach of the Year and was inducted into the St. Francis College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Serving as Head Coach of the Brooklyn Clippers and the Metro Cadets of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, he led his teams to four titles, with the crowning achievement of having 20 plus players drafted by Major League Baseball, all while carving out his own niche as a mainstay of the Italian Professional Baseball League as a player, coach, and part-owner of the Anzio Sharks and Anzio Dolphins, where he continues to coach and run clinics and camps during the summer.

Coach Del George is a true ambassador of the game, serving as a Major League Baseball International Envoy clinician, coaching teams, and running clinics in Italy and Japan. With over 600 wins in high school and college, he is regarded as one of the game’s top instructors both here and abroad. He is renowned for the comprehensive teaching he provides at his camps, where each player receives an in-depth introduction to all facets of the game, from conditioning to strategy; all done within an environment that is as much fun as it is instructional.

Coach Del George has been a long-time member of the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) and the IABF (Italian-American Baseball Foundation). His love of the game is evident by his comprehensive baseball knowledge and his dedication to teaching his players respect, teamwork, and discipline – all skills needed in the game of baseball and in life. 

Coach Del George resides in Staten Island with his wife Joanne. He is the proud father of  Greg Del George who is the Xaverian Varsity Baseball Associate Head Coach,  STEM teacher, and Coordinator of Engineering.

Mike Lopiparo (Lope) began as Xaverian’s Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach in 2003. Mike has been the Clippers Director of Baseball Operations since 2011 and is also in charge of watching over academics in the program. Lope has been part of five CHSAA Championships at Xaverian. 

Previously, Lope was in charge of Player Recruitment at division-1 St. Francis College from 1991 to 2003, where he helped the Terriers capture consecutive Northeast Conference titles. He also coached at Kingsborough for two seasons 

 

Lopiparo was a Sports-Producer at 1010-WINS Radio for two decades and was an adjunct professor at local colleges for over 20 years.
