Brian McCartney ’04, a former Xaverian track member and a collegiate runner himself, has been at the helm of Xaverian High School Track since Fall 2010, coaching the Varsity Cross Country and Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field teams. During his tenure as coach, 32 athletes have qualified for the Cross Country, Indoor or Outdoor New York State Federation Meet, as well as 3 relays, a Cross Country team, and 2 individuals qualifying for Nationals in 6 events. The teams have won 6 Brooklyn Queens Championships at the various levels under his tutelage, with dozens of Intersectional Catholic State Champions in individual events. As he puts it, more importantly than championships, virtually all of his athletes went on to earn college degrees, many of whom continued their running careers at the collegiate level for 9 different Division 1 programs including Delaware State, LIU, Sacred Heart, Morgan State, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary’s, Iona, St. Francis, and Marist. Brian currently resides in Staten Island with his wife, Stephanie and two children.
